Call for Selectors: Shape the Future of the Academy for the Mathematical Sciences

The Academy for the Mathematical Sciences is preparing to open applications for its inaugural cohort of Fellows and is now inviting expressions of interest for key roles in the Fellowship selection process: Chair of the Fellowship Committee, Panel Chairs, and Panel Members.

These selectors will play a vital role in identifying individuals whose excellence and impact reflect the full breadth of the UK’s mathematical sciences community. The Academy seeks a diverse group of experienced professionals from academia, education, business, industry, and government to guide this important process.

Professor Dame Alison Etheridge, FRS, President of the Academy, said:

“Later this month we will be inviting applications for the first cohort of Fellows of the Academy for the Mathematical Sciences. A crucial stepping stone on that path is the appointment of a group of selectors who will be jointly responsible for the appointment of those Fellows.

I am therefore delighted to invite applications from across the breadth of the mathematical sciences community to be selectors.”

The selection process will involve specialised panels in four categories: Academia, Education, Business, Industry and Government (BIG), and an Open category. Selectors will review applications from September, with panel meetings expected in October and November 2025. Training and guidance will be provided, and term lengths will vary to help ensure continuity in future years.

The Academy is committed to building inclusive panels that reflect the diversity of the mathematical sciences across the UK. Expressions of interest are welcomed from all parts of the community and all career stages.

The deadline for applications is Monday 30 June 2025.

Interested individuals should send a short CV or LinkedIn profile and a covering letter to [email protected]. Full details about the roles and requirements can be found here and below.

This is a unique opportunity to help shape a Fellowship that will strengthen, represent, and serve the entire mathematical sciences community in the years to come.
