Analysis of OR Salary Survey

Project summary

Analyse and report on the latest salary survey of OR professionals.

How will this project benefit the organisation?

The analysis will be useful in helping students to understand entry-level salaries and potential progression, as well as non-pay benefits for OR career roles. The OriE team will use the analysis to support online and event-based marketing and promotion of OR as a career path.

Project description

The OR Society has recently repeated a salary survey to update information last collected in 2014 and reported in 2015. The aim is to have this analysis ready for students attending a Careers Open Day on the 7th of November, as well as future OR in Education (ORiE) events. Currently, there have been 47 responses which is significantly lower than in the previous survey and this may limit the ability of the report to make comparisons with previous surveys.

Given the low current response rate, the minimum analysis/report would be descriptive statistics of salaries and benefits. Where possible, it would highlight any differences across sectors and different types of OR role.

The previous report (2015) is available and provides a template for the possible additional analyses that could be done, subject to having sufficient responses.

The timeline for this work is very short, with an event planned for 7th November. Therefore, it is accepted that a fully detailed analysis and comprehensive report may not be feasible. If the volunteer is able to produce some high-level findings by 6th November, that would be appreciated. There would then be an option to carry out further analysis and reporting after that date, subject to discussion with the ORiE team.
