Developing a performance dashboard for Off The Fence (OTF)

The Approach

The project involved developing a performance reporting dashboard that integrated and visualised performance data of their flagship programmes and their social media campaigns to present performance information to the Chief Officer and Finance teams. 

Through iterative discussions with the OTF team we evaluated the existing chain of tasks in the reporting lifecycle from data acquisition to report generation and presentation. 

We reviewed the impact assessment reports and co-defined the data dictionary, data architecture and the Key Performance Indicators relevant to each flagship programme.  

We prototyped an online and desktop version of the dashboard iteratively and piloted the solution for 2 reporting cycles.   

The Client

Off the Fence Trust works to support vulnerable and marginalised people with a mission to see an end to social and spiritual poverty in Brighton and Hove and beyond.  

The Client's Problem

OTF sought to generate holistic view of all programme activities, build a better evidence-base and buy-in for strategy, leading to improved operations and allowing for evidence-based reporting for its annual impact report. 

The Solution

Performance dashboard was published in OTF organisation workplace, accessible in a number of popular reporting formats for report users. PowerBI desktop was installed and configured with proper data connections and handed over with instructions guide. 

Given OTF’s existing MS Office suite and their familiarity with PowerBI, we co-designed end-to-end reporting process, extracted monthly reports submitted by their field personnel from their One Drive and scheduled publishing the final report online.  

We developed a data model that automated the process of acquisition of monthly updates and KPI measures calculations, applied the necessary data transformations and generated the refreshed reports. 

The Benefits

The dashboard helped monitoring OTF’s Antifreeze, Gateway, Schools, and youth programmes for service optimisation / improvement, tracking communication effectiveness through social media (Instagram, Facebook), webpage visits and email subscription as well as tracking progress on strategic priorities. 

Delivered scalable dashboard for possible new impact measurements on OTF activities.
